On the Dock
With Rick Smith
We talk a lot about fishing tournaments but not often do you think of fishing at a wedding. No, I am not talking about a red neck wedding like you might see on the country TV channel. You know, one of those weddings where they get married in camo gear while riding in their four wheelers through mud. This wedding was Fergie and Josh, better known as the singer, Stacy Ann Ferguson and the actor, Joshua Duhamel. This is certainly no typical bubba and bubbette as they spent approximately 1 million dollars on their recent wedding held in Malibu, California. Fergie and Josh rented the Church Estates Vineyard, bused all their guests to the event, and gave everyone a fishing pole so that they could fish as part of the wedding activities. Even their wedding invitations had artwork showing the couple fishing. Sure glad to hear that even the Hollywood crowd is getting into the hang and fun of fishing.
So the next time you hire a wedding planning don’t forget to bring out the old fishing poles. Be the first in your group to say I truly did catch myself a spouse!
Here in Central Texas we’ve known about the fun of fishing for a long time. This past weekend brought us our first big bass tournament of the year. The Texas Tournament Zone, www.ttz1.com, held a Big Bass tournament on Lake Stillhouse Hollow. These tournaments are based on the largest fish caught as opposed to the largest five fish stringer weight. Every hour the largest bass weighed-in won the anglers cash. Twenty three places were paid out. Entry fee was only $60 per angler. All it takes is a little luck at these big fish tournaments since you only have to catch one fish.
Forty-one fishermen participated in the tournament and the big winner was Paul Stokes, Legend Team Xtreme fisherman from Belton, and recent co-winner of the 2009 TuffMan Championship. Paul won the first place Marine Outlet Big Bass prize of $600 with a 8.51 lb hoss. His total earnings for the tournament were $880. Tim Dixon of Austin won second place with a 5.86 lb fish earning him $500 and Charles Guthrie from Killeen took third place with a 5.79 lb worth $400.
